Biodynamic Massage combines deep tissue massage with biodynamic cranial therapy. A balanced blend of direct and indirect approaches, it trains the practitioner to discover precisely where and how to work. This guidance verifies the practitioner’s effectiveness with a marked change in tissue quality. It is beautifully simple and therefore attainable by those new to the fields of massage or cranial therapy. It becomes profoundly sophisticated as one’s ease and skill advance, offering nourishment for practitioners well versed in both fields.
Learn how to facilitate the expression of health already within your clients. Modify pressure, direction of movement and surface area of contact to elicit the healing potency of the cranial system to reorganize the connective tissues for you. You will learn how to connect with the intelligence within the body and follow it, allowing the massage to be guided by the client’s own healing forces. This is very different than massage being guided by your ‘intuition’ or by a prescribed protocol for manipulation. During biodynamic massage, we learn to recognize, palpate and follow the body’s own inherent plan for self healing.
Todd Jackson began developing Biodynamic Massage in 1994. After 15 years of dedicated refinement, he began teaching this approach in 2009. Todd maintains an inclusive and supportive learning environment by bringing patient presence, humor, sensitive observation skills, experienced and sophisticated hands-on guidance to the group. Class sizes are intentionally small and assistants are employed to ensure students confidently integrate the approach. Ongoing support is available after workshops via Supplements, Treatment Exchanges, Feedback Sessions and Mentorship. Please see the current curriculum offered below.

Biodynamic massage cultivates the sensitivity and perception required for cranial work while the bodyworker performs massage. Often a slow moving, presence-developing healing art, biodynamic massage facilitates healing more effectively than traditional massage. You can include 10-20 minutes of biodynamic massage into your standard massage treatment very easily and your clients will respond positively. If you provide 60 full minutes of biodynamic massage, your clients will be dumbfounded by their sense of ease. Biodynamic massage provides a lovely bridge for practitioners wanting to migrate their practice from massage to cranial therapy.
Learn how to:
- Warm up the connective tissues using quietude as a guiding factor for direction & depth of stroke along with movement and rocking motions.
- Palpate connective tissue densities and optimize your vector, pressure and surface area of contact.
- Use this contact to elicit the healing forces within the cranial system to step forward and change the connective tissue for you.
- Follow the body fascia and cranial quietude to the source of issues.
- Stay present with the body as the issue resolves.
- Let go of unhelpful body posture, assumptions, and motives that plague the effectiveness of bodyworkers.

Develop the ability to palpate quietude in the client’s central channel. Monitor the central channel quietude while massaging local connective tissue hypertonicities, adhesions and other restrictions. Discover how to enable healing in the space between your hands, while each hand is performing its own local treatment. The Intermediate Biodynamic Massage workshop challenges the bodyworker to broaden their perceptive faculties to include the whole of the client in each moment. We will explore how to make massage a three dimensional, unifying experience that brings a sense of integrated wholeness for the client.
Learn how to:
- Advance your skills with vector, pressure, surface area of contact.
- Increase your sensitivity to quietude as a marker for proper application during treatments.
- Develop pineal perception to palpate the central channel and quietude directly.
- Treat with both hands in different locations; each hand at a local density.
- Treat with both hands in different locations; working the space in-between the hands.
- Improve your standing, full body scanning assessments to prioritize where and how to work.
- Apply effleurage to reconnect dissociated regions, leaving the client feeling three dimensional and whole.

When the client’s inner-body begins to unwind, the physical body often follows. The practitioner’s ability to facilitate these expressions without leading, exaggerating or diminishing them can make a substantial difference in a client’s return to health. Together we will explore how to recognize the first signs of unwinding, how to safely support the client as they unwind and how to dialog with the client about the unwinding process. Special emphasis will be directed to palpating the source driving the unwinding expressions and helping the practitioner remain at these source locations while simultaneously supporting the client’s moving body.

prerequisite: Intermediate Biodynamic Massage
Amplify your perception of and response ability to quietude. Follow the quietude as it enters your hands and central channel, shaping and moving your body as the practitioner. Learn how to let go and observe the quietude direct the massage treatment. Examine and resolve practitioner motives so touch occurs without intent, becoming exquisitely nurturing. The Advanced Biodynamic Massage workshop moves bodyworkers towards mastery. When the practitioner can relinquish what they think should happen and embody quietude’s movements, new dimensions of understanding and integration become available to the client. The new assessment approach of palpating inner-body configurations will be introduced as we facilitate congruency between inner-body and physical body forms.
Learn how to:
- Create a felt-sense, bi-directional, pathway from the inner body of the practitioner to the quietude hub of the client.
- Examine practitioner fears and motives which thwart the depth of quietude. How to work with them dynamically in the moment as they arise as well as how to work with them outside of treatment sessions.
- Recognize the need to communicate and clarify boundaries, assess one’s own comfort, set one’s own boundaries, when to speak up to clarify, follow-up after practicing with new boundaries in place.
- Ensure touch occurs from the place in the practitioner where the front and back energy centers meet the central channel.
- Go beyond age and gender of clients to connect with their core being.
- Touch without intent.
Workshop participants have requested more frequent opportunities to study the approach, ask questions and receive assistance in refining their skills. Biodynamic Massage Supplements are offered for sincere and motivated students to advance their interests.
The supplements are open only to those who’ve completed a prior Biodynamic Massage workshop. They typically occur on a Thursday from 5:30-9:00pm or a Saturday/Sunday from 2-6pm. Tuition is $100, which includes 60-90 minutes of receiving treatment, CEU’s, an opportunity to ask questions about the process, demonstrations as needed, and a healthy amount of hands-on assistance from Todd and assistants.
This is a great opportunity to brush-up on your skills, get some hands-on feedback to refine your work, and connect with a wider group of people to exchange Biodynamic Massage treatments.
Biodynamic Massage Treatment Exchanges
Deeply embed the biodynamic process by giving and receiving this work regularly. There is no substitute for receiving profound work so you know first hand what is transpiring for the client. Advancing our skills as practitioners is related to resolving our own inner-body challenges; so give and receive at least twice a month. The Biodynamic Massage Exchange list will help you keep your skills current and evolving by exchanging treatment with a diversity of practitioners. Students may opt-in or opt-out at any time. All those on the list are interested in contacting and being contacted by others on the list to exchange biodynamic massage treatment. Only those who’ve completed at least one of the above workshops may join the list.
At times, practitioners would like one on one help with a particular facet of the work. A feedback session can be arranged so that the practitioner can be observed treating a model client and receive hands-on guidance and instruction. The number and frequency of feedback sessions are limited, as the practice has limited room, so advanced planning is necessary. $145 for 60 minutes.
